Tangocamp started in Düsseldorf, Germany. It is a collaboration with Tanzhaus, which is why the first day started with a theatre show. The lighting was just perfect. We photographers like that. I’m really happy with the pictures I could take here.
My favourite one?
Koninginnedag in the Netherlands (April 30) is a funny day for non-Dutch people. You walk around Amsterdam and you see orange everywhere. Clothing, food, balloons, … It really is a day of pure party. And to make it totally memorable, the people from Academia de Tango had invited DJ Mala from Belgium and Sexteto Milonguero from Argentina, currently on a European tour.
That’s right, Nathalie & Pino, the sweet Swedish organizers of Tangocamp have invited me to be the TangoCamp 2010 photographer! So in June this year, expect me to be taking lots of pictures of tango afficionados in beautiful places.
What is Tangocamp? A travelling tango festival that starts on June 3rd in Dusseldorf, Germany, then goes to Rome, Italy the next weekend, to Stenungsund, Sweden the one after that and ends in a little piece of heaven called Eretria, Greece. You get classes from famous Argentinian and European maestros all day, hang out at the pool or the bar in between, and there’s a wonderful milonga every night, with performances of Sexteto Milonguero (they rock!) and DJs from all over Europe. If you want a tango holiday to remember: don’t hesitate!
More pictures from the fabulous aRealidades show. Tonight we have the last performance and then the workshops and milongas are starting.
Stockholm turns out to be a swell city. It’s green, clean, not too cold, the variety in expresso bars is impressive, but most of all the friendliness of the Swedes is striking. If you’re in need of anything, they help you out in excellent English and otherwise they’ll just start chatting.
aRealidades seeks to explore human instincts in social relations: love, violence, power, creation, acceptance. The choreography tells a story about the world we live in today, about the endless search for balance and hope.
The performance starts with Quinteto Sonor, a young tango ensemble from Sweden.
After that, the dance begins. Eight dancers from DNI take us along a trip in human relations and strong emotions.
In one week I’ll be leaving for the aRealidades festival in Stockholm, Sweden.
I’ll be taking pictures of the DNI (Dana y Pablo) show, the musical performances of Quinteto Sonor, Electrocutango and Tango For 3 and all the milongas. See you there?
I decided to go to Dusseldorf for the last milonga of Tangocamp 2009. I have very good memories of the Greece edition and I wanted to see a couple of people back. You could see it was the 4th week in a row, the organizers and teachers seemed very happy that their month of excess of tango and lack of sleep was almost finished.
The organizers of Tangocamp, Natalie & Pino, just hours away from the end of an exhausting but very successful Tangocamp.
Performance of the maestros
There were two performances that night too, one by Nancy & Damian and a second by Dana & Pablo. I obviously took pictures.
